Special police regulations
It is prohibited to cross through Paris by sailboat (without engine) or rowboat.
● Every boat must be equpped with a VHF radio facility on board. Channel 10 must be kept on standby.
● Leisure navigation between the Mirabeau and Tolbiac bridges is done under transit conditions, without tacking or remaining stopped in the channel.
● The maximum authorized speed is 18 km/hr, on condition that the boat is more than 20 m from the banks. Otherwise, the speed is only 12 km/hr.
- Overtaking is forbidden between:
- Bir Hakeim bridge and the Debilly footbridge
- Solférino footbridge and Invalides bridge
- Pont neuf and Austerlitz bridge.
● The Monnaie arm is forbidden to leisure navigation as soon as the water height reaches 2.50 m at the Austerlitz scale.
● Boat traffic between the Saint Louis and Cité islands is controlled by shuttling.
● Green and red lights are installed on the Sully and Change bridges.
Vessels traveling upstream may pass from the hour to the hour + 20 minutes, and those going downstream from the hour + 35 minutes to the hour + 50 minutes. ● Except under exceptional circumstances, the minimum speed of vessels:
● in the Grand Bras is 6 km/h with respect to the bank for boats going upstream, and 8 km/h for boats going downstream;
● in the Monnaie arm: 6 km/h with respect to the bank.
● Navigation on the left: left mandatory between Saint Louis and Notre Dame bridges.
Turn and turnabout
Turning is prohibited:
- for boats going upstream by the Monnaie arm, at the upstream point of Ile de la Cité, to turn around and go back downstream;
- for boats going downstream by the large arm at the downstream point of Saint Louis island, to turnabout and go back upstream;;
● Turnabouts are prohibited:
for upstream boats that want to take the Marie arm, from Mont Sully up to 40 meters downstream of the exit from Saint Martin canal.
